Couple Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck marry in a small ceremony in Las Vegas, Nevada, with plans for Lopez to take on the actor's last name.
Jennifer Lopez has married partner Ben Affleck in Las Vegas, Nevada. Affleck and Lopez met when they co-starred in Gigli in 2003. The movie was a box office failure, but nonetheless brought the pair together. The couple were engaged by late 2002 and filmed another movie together, Kevin Smith's Jersey Girl, which was released in 2004. However, Affleck and Lopez had called off their nuptials by then and had moved on, with Lopez marrying actor and musician Marc Anthony and Affleck marrying his Daredevil co-star, Jennifer Garner.
Both Affleck and Lopez continued to have successful careers after their split, with Lopez starring in a long string of successful rom-coms, while also still pursuing her massive music career. Affleck would go on to become a director as well as a successful actor, helming the Best Picture winner Argo in 2012, before donning Batman's cape and cowl for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Zack Snyder's Justice League. Lopez's most recent films included the critically-acclaimed Hustlers and Hulu's Marry Me with Owen Wilson, while Affleck recently appeared in Ridley Scott's The Last Duel, George Clooney's The Tender Bar, and Adrian Lyne's Deep Water.

Lopez announced via her On The JLo newsletter (via People) that she and Affleck were married on July 17th in a surprise ceremony at The Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. The actress called the evening "the best night ever" surrounded by "the best witnesses you could ever imagine." The pair stood in line with other newlyweds to be married and even changed in the break room and men's room at the location. An insider told People that the pair "just wanted to be married," which led to a seemingly spur-of-the-moment ceremony. Lopez signed her post with "Mrs. Jennifer Lynn Affleck," which appears to be her newlywed name. Her post read in part:
"We did it. Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient. Exactly what we wanted. Last night we flew to Vegas, stood in line for a license with four other couples, all making the same journey to the wedding capital of the world."
Affleck and Lopez both have a number of projects lined up to follow their marriage, as the former is currently filming his untitled Nike drama about the shoe company's journey in securing Michael Jordan for their brand. He also has a number of acting projects on the way, including Robert Rodriguez's Hypnotic and another turn as Batman in The Flash solo film with Ezra Miller. Lopez will release her action-thriller The Mother on Netflix later this year, while her documentary Halftime just debuted on the streamer.
Hollywood's history is filled with great power couples, from Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, to Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, Sonny and Cher, Beyonce and Jay-Z, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, and many more. Affleck and Lopez have long been a part of that spotlight, together or apart, which makes their nuptials a kind of rom-com story in itself. While Hollywood relationships come and go, it is heartwarming to see a couple rekindle and forge ahead in their lives, and no doubt many will be happy to see Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck finally tie the knot.
